Evil eye pendant and earrings

My client’s wife is originally from the Middle East where the ‘Evil Eye’ symbol is popular. His wife had mentioned an ‘Evil Eye’ pendant but he had been unable to find a quality version of the symbol. The "Evil Eye" exists in Iranian folklore. It is a good luck charm to ward off evil spirits.

My client asked if I could create an Evil Eye pendant as a surprise Christmas gift.

I designed two variations of the design with the final approved piece shown here. I created the pendant by setting 254 blue sapphires, 30 pale blue aquamarines, 56 white diamonds and 7 black diamonds. Created by hand in 18ct white gold this was a truly spectacular piece of work.

The technical challenge of this piece was significant. Indeed grading, assessing and calibrating so many gemstones proved difficult. Just to add to pressure was a relatively tight five-week deadline.

However, the final piece was completed on time, presented on Christmas morning with one extremely delighted client and wife.

Two Christmasses later, I created a complementary pair of earrings to complete the set. A larger white diamond was set to the top of the earrings with the Evil Eye round sections to the bottom.

The earrings were created in 18ct white gold with matching quality gemstones to the pendant.

The design and manufacture of these two important jewellery creations were personally extremely satisfying for me. It was complicated and highly specialised work that very few UK based jewellers could undertake.

I am very proud of the finished pieces.
