Frequently Asked Questions

What’s on an Insurance Valuation Schedule?

Why Do I need my jewellery and watches valued?

There are a few reasons, but the main one is that old adage ‘peace of mind’. Honestly, for treasured items that mean a lot to you, the peace of mind at having adequate insurance cannot be underestimated. In the event of your item(s) being lost, stolen or damaged, an up to date valuation is the difference between you being able to replace your item, or not. We’ve seen it happen. It’s not nice and it’s not worth it.

Get organised people and update your valuations!

How much does it cost?

Our Same-Day Valuation charge is £65.00 per item up to a maximum of ten items per appointment. You won’t get a better service at a better price anywhere.

How long does it take?

The clue is in the title. The specific details are: You make an appointment to bring in your items (with any supporting paperwork) before 11am. Your collection appointment will be booked in for later that same afternoon, between 4pm and 5:30pm. Same-Day, see?

Do I need to make an appointment?

Yes please!

In order to ensure we have sufficient time to complete all our scheduled valuations, appointments are absolutely essential. All appointments should be booked online on our Same-Day Valuations page.

What should I bring with me?

Your jewellery and watches that need valuing. We need those. If you have any previous valuations, diamond certificates or receipts, then these would be useful, though are not essential.

And cake, possibly? Cake is always appreciated.

How often should I have my jewellery and watches valued?

There are no strict rules, but we recommend you have your jewellery and watch valuations reviewed every 2-3 years. The markets for precious gemstones and precious metals can be hugely volatile, so price fluctuations are common. Finding out you’re under-insured because of an out of date valuation is no fun!

What documentation will I receive from you?

You will receive an official, bound valuation document. Each one of your items will be described in full with every distinguishing feature noted. Your items will be photographed and catalogued and Values will be calculated for each item. Your valuation will be signed by Christopher and is recognised by all leading insurance companies for valuation purposes.

Do you offer any other valuation services?

Absolutely. We offer valuations for Probate, Family Division as well as Post-Loss Estimates. We can also offer insurance valuations for more than ten items, but this cannot be done on the same-day service. We only have so many hands and so may hours in one day! Please contact us direct for a tailored quote based on your individual requirements.

Will my home insurance policy be sufficient?

We are experts in bespoke jewellery and (not that we’re boasting) also pretty good at several other things. The intricacies of insurance policies are not, however, on our “talented at” list.

We would recommend speaking to a specialist insurance company, like T H March, who we have had plenty of positive experience with in the past for clients who have had to make a claim.
